As he did several years ago when St. Patrick's Day fell on a Friday in Lent, Bishop Kevin Rhoades has again this year granted a commutation of the obligation of abstinence from meat on St. Patrick's Day.
In a letter to parishes of the diocese, the bishop has stated, "I am legislating that, on March 17, 2023, the faithful of our diocese may substitute for abstinence from meat one of three acts: attendance at Mass on Saint Patrick's Day, the recitation of the holy rosary on Saint Patrick's Day for the intention of world peace, or one-half hour of prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament."
