My husband, Bernie, and I joined St. Anthony De Padua Parish in 1999. Our three adult children and their families were members of the community, and we wanted to worship together with them. All nine of my grandchildren graduated from St. Anthony grade school.
I feel so blessed by the Lord to have been born to Catholic parents who took seriously their duty to raise me in the Catholic faith. I love being Catholic. What a gift it is for me to be able to attend daily Mass and spend time before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He is really and truly present in Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist. He has transformed my life. I know personally His Great Love for me. I have peace within no matter what the circumstances. He gives purpose to my life.
In 2005 I had the opportunity to participate in the Christ Renews His Parish weekend retreat at our parish. It was put on by a team of women from St. Bavo Parish. The St. Anthony De Padua women who participated in the weekend were then formed to be the next team that led the retreat the following year. It was time consuming, but what a blessing! The love, respect, and deep relationships that were formed then are “gifts” that keep on giving in my life today. When my husband died in May 2008, my dear sisters were there with their love, prayers, encouragement and support.
If I may offer a word of encouragement to the ladies of our parish, please don’t hesitate to participate in our newly formed women’s group, “Be the Light.” Without a doubt you will be blessed.
